Jakarta Custom Culture 2018 - Part 1

The custom motorcycle and automobile boom has stirred up quite the scene here in Indonesia during the past couple of years. All the cool kids are butchering Honda Tigers, Yamaha Scorpios and the likes at their preferred custom bike shops, which, mind you, has spread and grown in significant numbers in almost all the major cities throughout the nation.

Massive scenes generate groups and communities, which in turn bring up gatherings and events of various scales. From small group rides, to national scale shows. One of the more recent shows as a result of this trend is the Jakarta Custom Culture event, initially started out by the Jakarta Hotrod and Classic American Community (JHCC) in 2016 that took place at Parkir Selatan Gelor Bung Karno, Senayan and showcased American and Australian muscle and classics, as well as the occasional custom motorcycles.

2018 would be the third year in a row of the commencement of Jakarta Custom Culture, and like the one last year, it'd been held at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran. The show was on for a span of two days, 27th -28th November 2018. "Drive, Ride, Rock and Roll" was the slogan this year, which frankly was a tad on the obnoxious side, but hey, it's all about that rugged, kustom swagger right?

Coming into the venue, we were greeted by what looked like a giant rubber ducky perched on top of a car. Upon coming closer, turned out it was one of those giant inflatable duck pool floats that you see on hot chicks' Instagram posts at the pool, tied to the roof of a Mini. Way to compensate for size.

Here it is cowering behind a line of intake scoops.

Next to the solitary Mini are a row of aircooled Volkswagens, well, mostly Beetles and an all-show Thing with motorized EVERYTHING.

Volkswagens aside, Holdens are also a hit here. It's what I would call the "accessible muscle car", as they were sold in decent numbers back in the days.

It's nice to see interesting cars out of the comforts of the garage, well at least to be parked out in the sun, but you know what would be even nicer? To see them driven on the roads.
