For Those Who are Into Cars and, uh, Coffee

Cars and Coffee. Probably a global term you may have heard of in recent years if you’re into cars, and uh, coffee maybe? It’s usually this casual monthly or bi-monthly get together on the weekends for the local community in a town or city for car enthusiasts alike. From the way I see it (through the interwebs), Cars and Coffees around the world are melting pots for the local car communities.

Unrestrictive, unsegmented, and uncostly, these were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little gatherings. Goodrides, the people behind the infamous annual Fast In Fast Out trackday (check out our coverage on the 2018 one too!) have also been holding their own Cars and Coffee these past couple of years. It’s nice to know how they’ve made it open for public, so whoever you are, and whatever you drive, people are free to be a part of the show.

At first the venues have changed from time to time, but in recent months, they’d stuck to holding the meet either at the Mitra Terrace parking lot, or they’d invite people to cruise with them to Kiputih Satu in Bandung, more than adequate for venues to say the least.

We came to the most recent Goodrides Cars and Coffee, held on the 30th September 2018 at Mitra Terrace, initially hoping to find some interesting cars and to talk to their respective (knock on wood) owners, and dig up the stories behind them. At first, the cars parked up front were the regular bunch of, you guessed it, BMWs. E36 and E46 models are highly sought after around these parts, probably due to their availability as these sold like peanuts when new.

Much to our relief, in-between the sea of  3-series and stance oriented cars, there were a handful amount of interesting cars around. Take this old Honda Civic for instance, with the right amount of surface rust under its coat of baby blue paint job, running on Enkei Belimbing  wheels.

Upon a peek inside of the cabin, it turns out this delightful little Civic was an automatic, which must be fun to whizz around town with clunky gearshifts. Also note the immaculate state of its interior.

We didn’t get a chance to take decent photos of this Instagram famous Peugeot 504, but boy, did it look good in person. From what we’ve heard, this was bought brand new by the owner’s grandfather. We would really like to get in touch with the owner! Hit us up!

This Celica GT-Four looks ilike it has gone through regular use and abuse. We dig it. A lot.

Dented cars have a special place in our hearts, this Toyota Corolla Liftback is a prime example of one.

Seeing all the wide range of wonderful cars, enthusiasts, and events the city of Jakarta has to offer in this digital era, we figured how sweet it would be to have an online platform to accommodate all three.

Lucky for us, in the middle of our stroll around the event, we happened to come across the guys behind Rideclique, Ibi and Emir. Curious on what it was, we conversed even more. It turns out, Rideclique is the answer to our prayers prior mentioned.

Though still under development and is on its Beta test, Rideclique is basically an app-based social media where car enthusiasts are able to create a profile for themselves, their cars, their events, and their clubs. From there, users will also be able to be friends with one another, view each other’s profiles and cars. They will also be able to create event posts for an upcoming event, complete with all the details, for everyone using the app to see.

To be honest, we are quite looking forward to the launch of Rideclique, as the app could be a means for car enthusiasts across the country to connect, and find like-minded people. So look out for that!
Moving on to the middle of the parking lot, we spotted this Datsun Silvia 180 with plaid interior. Very nice.

The further back we go, the more appealing the cars get. The highlight was definitely this trio parked side by side.

Period decal game is strong with this Suzuki Jimny rocking a little rust here and there.

Ario had been fan-girling over this Datsun 510 the entire day. He says it reminds him of a certain #project5outof10 waiting to be worked on.

There’s something about weird and wacky decals. Ladies and gentlemen, we present you, the Prancing Moose.

And some tasteful parodies here and there.

Recessed headlights for the win!

Here’s our friend, George’s Beetle, bought from new back in the day!

And here’s Dika’s “Cingkrang” Beetle, ready to devour shitty roads and potholes.

As the sun starts to ascend overhead, we could hear Australian rambling coming from afar. The Holden blokes have arrived.

Your not-so-typical ozzy attorney Holden.

Not long after, people have started to leave the venue, in style that is.

Nice touch on the antennae!

After fulfilling our senses on the cars and company, it was time for us to head back home. We’d say it was definitely a Sunday morning well spent. Kudos to the guys over at Goodrides for that. We recommend everyone who are into cars, no matter what and how they are to come along and attend open gatherings like this.
